Eighth Grade Holocaust Unit

Through our research from the United States Holocaust Museum Website, Voices of the Holocaust and many other non-fiction books about the holocaust, students will attempt to answer the following questions: How did the Holocaust happen in the first place? How were the victims persecuted? What was the resistance to the Nazis during the holocaust? Why should we remember the holocaust? Who was responsible for the holocaust?

i think the theme of this story is that you should never hate for such simple reasons i mean he couldent get a job he shouldve tried harder and he shouldve thought about all of his actions have consequences

The theme of Skin Deep is that hatred is powerful and can affect a lot of people. For example, when the lawyer came into the classroom to talk about racism and things like that, she said some powerful words that started up the class into a riot to show them how words can be powerful.

This story is about a child name Dan and he lives with a poor really racist family even thou they don’t show it his father walked out on him and his family when he was a little tyke and he thinks it is his entire fault. When he first came to boulder high school he immediately got a girlfriend and they hung out a lot then on Halloween he went to an event called the mall crawl and when he saw the skinheads he could feel the power of hate burning inside of them. He really started thinking of skinheads when he kept being turned down by businesses and stores because they would rather have minorities working for them then one day he went inside of a store and saw those skinheads beating up a Pakistani he wanted to be a hero but all that happened he got beat up and he forgot his knife at the crime scene the skinheads made him say he saw black people beating the cashiere up but after a while in the gang he realized they weren’t good people all they did was hate so he tried to get out but there were consequences

The theme of Skin Deep
Dan lives in boulder Colorado in a single wide trailer. His dad walked out on he mom and his two sister when he was a little boy he thinks its all he fault. He moved to boulder so his sister could go to college with out having to pay for a dorm room. He left his girl fiend and all he other fiends. He left his swim team when he came he new that he had a spot on the swim team boulder high coach tould him he would the coach didn’t give him the spot. The theme of skin deep. Is not to use your power in the wrong way. Even if your life is down in the pits. In skin deep Dan was feeling badly about himself because he lived in a poor family, he couldn’t get a job, and he wasn’t allowed on the swim team. Dan also grew up in a family that was blatantly racist. He was disappointed and angry so when he saw the skinheads at the mall crawl, he was impressed with their power. With all these factors in Dan’s life, he saw the skinheads as people who took what they wanted and had power over the weak.
He took the chance and became a skin head. He was attracted to the power of the racism because he grew up with it his whole life. His sister picked up the sports illustrated and asked why is there all ways black people on the cover. “They’re actually having a gay Olympics. I cant believe sports illustrated is giving it space
When he saw skin heads at the mall crawl he liked the boots the tattoos they had and the power they had. He thought that they had all of the power and so therefore he wanted to join them. At the mall crawl he saw there power he saw that they were able to tell people what to do call minorities name tell them that they don’t belong here and show there hate publicly.
When he walked into the store looking for a job again, after being turned down at a bunch of other jobs. He saw the skin heads beating up the minority. He tried to help the minority he wanted to be a hero. It would make him look good and maybe get him a job. He also got hurt by the skin heads. The skin heads left some of his belongings at the crime. The skin heads took him to there hide out and forced him to be in there gang. The skin heads also forced him to go into town and tell the police that he saw a group of black people beat up the minority. When he realized that he was in the skin heads gang for ever he took it into his own power he started to skip school.
He lost his girl friend and all his friends. But then he realized what he was doing was wrong and tried to quit without them killing him. He was too far in the skin heads gang and he could not get him self out with out the police’s help. He tried to save an Asian kid and ended up help save the kid and his self from the horrible skin head gang. But in the end he finds out that all he did was wrong and hes going to have to pay for it.
